Los Angeles, CA

Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, was arrested by United States Marshals in March 2020 for failing to register as a sex offender in the state of California. According to CBS News, Petty’s case was resolved in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday (July 6) when a judge slapped him with three years’ probation and a year of home detention.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Petty was also ordered to pay a $55,000 fine as part of his sentence. Prosecutors are likely frustrated by the outcome of the case. Last month, federal prosecutors thumbed their noses at home confinement at the couple’s massive Calabasas home.

The gated “affluent” community includes a pool, state-of-the-art music studio and luxurious backyard — not exactly a punishment. Instead, they wanted Petty hit with 15 months in prison, five years supervised release and the $55,000 in retribution.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office suggested his marriage to one of the most famous rappers in the world resulted in Petty’s sudden apathy. Court documents stated Petty kept up with his sex offender registry paperwork for nearly two decades but once he rekindled his relationship with Nicki in 2019 and moved to California, the “defendant adopted an affluent lifestyle” and stopped checking in.
