Boosie Badazz has received a history lesson from Snoop Dogg after admitting he’s never actually known the significance behind the Fourth of July.

As his fellow Americans celebrated Independence Day on Tuesday (July 4), the Baton Rouge rapper posted a video on Instagram confessing to his ignorance and asking his followers to enlighten him about the complicated racial history behind the annual holiday, which had only recently been brought to his attention.

“Aye, I need somebody to educate me on July 4th,” Boosie said while getting a haircut in time for his Fourth of July festivities. “Everybody in my DM saying I should not celebrate Fourth of July if I love my Black people. But I don’t really know the meaning of Fourth of July. I always thought it was some war shit.

“I need to be educated on the Fourth of July, bro. Because I’ve been celebrating the Fourth of July in the hood with fireworks since I was born. If I’m celebrating some wrong shit, I need to be educated.”

He continued: “So hit my DM with a paragraph letting me know what’s going on because I’m lost. I am, I’m lost like a muthafucka. I got all my people who I love, my Black people, they on my ass. I don’t fucking know!”

In his caption, he wrote: “HOW IM A [SELL] OUT? I ACTUALLY DONT KNOW‼️ ALL I KNOW IS FIREWORKS.”

Boosie Badazz’s followers answered the call and flocked to his comments section to school him on the meaning behind the Fourth of July. Among them was Snoop Dogg, who gave the “Wipe Me Down” rhymer a brief history lesson while urging him to instead celebrate Juneteenth, the annual June holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans.

“It’s ya oppresses freedom celebration we weren’t free yet and that’s why call me Nefew I’ll game u up,” Snoop wrote, before adding: “Juneteenth is our holiday of last free slaves.”

Another user offered a more detailed breakdown, writing: “4th of July was created in 1776 to celebrate America’s ‘Freedom’ from Great Britain .. But we (black people) in America, wasn’t free until 1863 .. So basically, America celebrated their freedom right in our ancestors faces, while they still had them chained & enslaved .. So fuck we celebrating for?”

However, others pushed back against the Fourth of July backlash, urging Boosie to simply enjoy the festivities with his family.

“It never have been for us but honestly all of these holidays are evil!” one person argued. “You’re with family and enjoying them that’s all that matters! Everything in this world is deeply rooted with racism so the best thing to do is just enjoy your family ain’t nothing wrong with that at all!”

The Badazz Music Syndicate boss did just that as he later posted photos and videos of his Fourth of July party at his home, which featured family, friends, food, flowing alcohol and a customary fireworks display.
