Post Malone and Swae Lee have cemented their place in the history books after earning the first-ever song to achieve double diamond status.

On Thursday (February 8), the duo’s 2018 hit “Sunflower,” which was released as part of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack and later Post’s Hollywood’s Bleeding album, was certified 20x platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).

The historic plaque commemorates at least 20 million units sold in the U.S.

“Post Malone and Swae Lee have officially raised the bar on what creative partnerships and infectious collaborations have the power to accomplish,” Mitch Glazier, CEO and Chairman of the RIAA, said in a statement.

“‘Sunflower’ (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) has now been streamed or downloaded more than 20 million times in the U.S. alone, and they’ve earned the custom hardware to prove it.”

He added: “Congratulations Post, Swae Lee and Republic Records for making history with the very first 2x Diamond single!”

“Sunflower” may not be the only double diamond single for long. Journey’s juggernaut 1981 hit “Don’t Stop Believing” was recently certified 18x platinum, while Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” trails closely behind at 17x platinum.

There are also a string of songs currently at 16x platinum including Drake‘s “God’s Plan,” Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive.”

“Sunflower” initially went platinum in March 2019, less than six months after its release, and had soared to 17x platinum status by November 2022, surpassing “Old Town Road” as the highest RIAA-certified song at the time.

The Carter Lang and Louis Bell-produced track also topped the Billboard Hot 100, as well as numerous charts around the globe, and was nominated for both Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the Grammys.

Post Malone is doing more than breaking records these days. Last month, it was revealed that he, Fat Joe and others were recruited to appear in Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming film, which appears to be a fictionalized fantasy biopic.

The official trailer for This Is Me…Now: A Love Story went live in January, offering dramatic snippets of the singer and actress’s whimsical journey to find love.

Set to premiere on Amazon Prime on February 16, the 65-minute movie will be released on the same day as J.Lo’s first album in 10 years, which shares the same title as its visual parallel.

The “White Iverson” hitmaker is also set to join forces with Taylor Swift on her new album The Tortured Poets Department (out April 19), appearing on a song called “Fortnight.”
