Kelis has shared a message with fans after reflecting on how losing her late husband “impacted” her, following the one-year anniversary of his death.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday (March 14), Kelis reflected on the whole ordeal and how it inspired her journey toward wellness. While the eccentric singer admitted that she had been health conscious for a while, it wasn’t until her husband, Mike Mora’s stomach cancer diagnosis in 2021, that she felt compelled to dive deeper into non-traditional health and wellness practices.

Kelis said that through research, she and Mora were able to find alternative medical treatments like Ozone therapy and eating mushrooms. She called the unconventional medical approach “game-changing.”
The singer also pointed out that many people struggle with maintaining their health for a variety of reasons, including a lack of health education. Kelis also urged fans to pay attention to the types of food they consume.
“We don’t even know who to trust anymore,” she said in video. “We don’t know where to go, we go to doctors for things that don’t make any sense, but really it’s food, it’s how we’re eating, it’s how we’re living and breathing, and putting our feet in the soil.”
In addition, the singer noted that this was the inspiration for the creation of a product under her Bounty & Full beauty and wellness brand, called “Brain Food.” Kelis admitted that while it was unfortunately too late to help Mike, who passed away on March 13 last year, that she still finds the product very useful.
“I give it to my kids, I give it to myself,” she said. Kelis also urged fans to take steps to de-stress their lives, warning that it can lead to complications if not taken seriously.
This isn’t the first time Kelis has spoken about how her husband’s death affected her. In an interview with PEOPLE this past September, she opened up about how difficult the situation had been, but also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to say goodbye slowly.

“It wasn’t something that was sudden,” she said. “We were able to prepare, and love, and say goodbye. We were able to spend the time that we needed to, as much as we were given, the best way that we could. Is it a great situation? No, it’s freaking awful, but I am grateful.”
She added: “It was out of our hands from the beginning. We’re just grateful for what we had. It’s part of life.”
