Nicki Minaj announced during her conversation with Joe Budden earlier this year that she is launching her own record label and management company, and it looks like she’s signed her first artist.

Earlier this week DMV rapper Tate Kobang hopped on his Instagram Story to announce he signed with Nicki and couldn’t believe it. Tate hails from Baltimore, Maryland and has been buzzing in the DMV scene for a few years.

“Welp thats cats out the bag,” he wrote on his Instagram story. “Yeah I just closed my deal and signed to Nicci as a artist. Damn.”

Tate isn’t new to the game as he’s been active since 2011. He broke out in 2015 with “Bank Rolls (Remix),” a 90-second promotional single for his mixtape “Live Hazey,” and it helped him grab a deal with 300 Entertainment that same year. He also co-wrote 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s “Mr. Right Now” featuring Drake off Savage Mode II.

Nicki hasn’t confirmed the signing but did allude to the signing earlier this year during a session on Instagram Live where she shouted out Tate before announcing there was a record label on the way.

“I see you, Tate Kobang. I see you boo boo,” she said on Instagram Live. “It’s about that time to announce my record label, y’all.”

On top of launching her own label and management company, Nicki Minaj is also branching out elsewhere. In May, she signed a multi-year, global partnership deal with Maxim betting platform MaximBet.
