Anyone familiar with Master P’s journey knows about his passion for basketball. From his time with the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) to his brief stint on the Charlotte Hornets training camp roster and with the Toronto Raptors, his love for the game has never wavered.
So when the Los Angeles Lakers’ owners fired head coach Frank Vogel on April 11 following a dismal season, it left an opportunity for someone else to step into the role — and Master P would love to have the job. On Sunday (April 17), TMZ stopped the No Limit Records founder and asked if he’d be willing to take over.
“This Hollywood, anything can happen out here,” he replied. “I don’t know [owner and president of the Los Angeles Lakers] Jeannie Buss tell her to bring me up for an interview.”
The cameraman then told Master P that Buss watches TMZ regularly and gave him the opportunity to do an on-camera pitch for the job: “Bring me in, I can help get us some Ws, championships.”

Master P also noted it was rare for the Lakers not to be in the NBA playoffs, saying, “We ain’t even used to that. I’m a big fan of the Lakers from Magic Johnson to all the greats that have been there. Kobe Bryant. We’ve never seen like this before.”
As P continued making his case for the gig, he suggested he’d enlist former Lakers star Shaquille O’ Neal to be his assistant coach.
“I’ll bring some hell of assistant coaches with me,” he added. “Shaq, John Lucas. I don’t know if Shaq wants to do that, but if he do, we can take over. I can’t see another team like that.”
