Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama set a new record for attendance at a campaign rally in Oregon, yesterday. Obama drew up to 75,000 people to a Portland rally, with city fire officials estimating 65,000 people crammed into Tom McCall Waterfront Park and another ten to 15,000 listening outside. Oregon holds its primary tomorrow, and according to a number of polls, the junior senator is expected to carry the state, which will give him a majority of pledged delegates over Sen. Hillary Clinton. During the speech, Obama invited Oregon citizens to help him change the world. “If you vote for me on Tuesday,” he said during his half hour address, “We won’t just win Oregon. We’ll win this nomination, we’ll win this general election. And you and I together, we’ll change this country, we’ll change the world.”

While the Oregon crowd highlights a re-energized Barack Obama, all the news concerning his candidacy was not on the up and up. Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee issued an apology to Obama for an off color “joke” during at a National Rifle Association conference. While addressing the audience, there was a loud bang behind Huckabee, and he used the unscripted moment to joke about guns and presidential candidates. “That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he’s getting ready to speak,” the Baptist minister said. “Somebody aimed a gun at him and he…he dove for the floor.”Huckabee apologized shortly after the speech, calling the remark “inappropriate.”
