New York City, NY

Fred the Godson’s legacy lives on via — among other things — his final video filmed before his 2020 death.

“Garcias (Ascension Theme)” is the second single off of the recent posthumously released album Ascension (the lead single “ALI” was released last month). The project consists of nine brand-new songs handpicked by Fred’s brother Russ and sports production from The Heatmakerz, as well as verses from the likes of G Mims, Guap Sinatra, M City, Reef Hustle, Bandz Dinero, and more.

The February 22 release date coincided with the late MC’s birthday and the unveiling of Frederick “Fred the Godson” Thomas Way, located at the corner of Leggett Avenue and Kelly Street in the South Bronx. Industry associates and friends like Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Mysonne and Sway Calloway turned out to help pay homage to Fred, alongside his family and community.

The rapper passed away in April 2020, after being diagnosed with and ultimately losing the battle to COVID-19, which to date has claimed the lives of 2.5 million people worldwide.
