It appears Drake’s security team is undefeated when it comes to protecting the Toronto rapper. Within the last few years, they’ve thwarted a fan’s attempt to steal soda from his house and allegedly put hands on Grammy award-winning producer Detail when he went to Drake’s home in Calabasas to record music. They can now add defending Drake from singer Shawn Mendes to their growing list of accomplishments.

Mendes talked about his failed encounter with the Toronto superstar during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The singer told the audience about how Drake’s security team roughed him up at a recent show.

While attending The Weeknd’s show in Toronto, Mendes says he saw the More Life rapper in the V.I.P section of the venue. When he approached Drake to exchange greetings, things took a hard left turn.

“I’m watching The Weeknd and we’re up on this riser, and Drake’s also there watching the show with like another few artists and stuff,” he recalled. “And I go over like, ‘Oh, that’s Drake. I’ll go say hi. He must remember me from previous experiences like twice.’”

Alas, Mendes’ experience wouldn’t be one that he’d like to remember. Before he could get to Drake, security was on his case.

“So I go over to touch his side and his 6’6,” 300-pound security guard,” he said while mimicking being put in an arm-wrenching hold. “Next thing I know, I’m in the middle of The Weeknd’s show with like my arm hooked behind my back. Drake’s security guard just has me completely at his mercy. And I’m like, ‘Oh no!”

At this point, it seemed like the only thing that could save him was Drake himself. Luckily, Drizzy stepped in to save the day.

“I see Drake look over and in my eyes, it was like, ‘Please help me. Please, Drake,'” Mendes said. “In that moment, if he didn’t remember who I was, I probably would have… I don’t know what I would have done.”
