Despite reports from several outlets (but not DX) last week that YG had breached a contract by playing “Fuck Donald Trump” at a recent concert at San Diego State University, a rep from the school has clarified that that wasn’t the case.

An SDSU rep told SPIN that YG was paid in full for his March 3 performance at GreenFest and then later another student rep explained that there was no specific provision in the contract banning the song.

“During booking discussions with Live Nation, the student GreenFest committee that selected the artist and planned the GreenFest concert requested that YG not perform his song, ‘FDT,’” Associated Students of SDSU spokesperson Raven Tyson told SPIN. “The student GreenFest Committee was advised that an artist can be asked, but that there is a possibility that the artist will still play the song. On the night of the concert, YG indicated that he wanted to play the song ‘FDT’ even though he had been asked not to by Associated Students. Associated Students indicated that payment would not be withheld if he played the song. YG was paid his full $60,000 fee for performing at Greenfest.”

The original reports seem to have started with tweets from fans.

From there, the story spun out of control as multiple outlets ran with the tweets, using the term “reportedly” rather than attempting to track down the source of the information.

YG has made his distaste for the current president known since back in 2016 when Trump was little more than the guy bullying his way through the Republican primaries. Unsurprisingly, the crowd at San Diego State University went wild when YG tore into a rendition on the song.
