The first track on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly“Wesley’s Theory” featuring George Clinton and Thundercat, was produced by Flying Lotus.

When the album was unexpectedly released yesterday (March 15) via iTunes, like many others, FlyLo took to Twitter to share his sentiments.

“Now that the word’s out. I produced @kendricklamar “Wesley’s Theme” ft. @Thundercat and @george_clinton” FlyLo wrote. “#topimpabutterfly album is a classic.”

The producer, who often dabbles in electronic music, also explained that he crafted another beat for the track “For Sale,” but it wasn’t used on the final copy.

He claims that an encounter with K.Dot on the “Yeezus” tour led to the theme of Kendrick’s new album. FlyLo says he gave Kendrick a folder of music – intended for rapper Captain Murphy – and later on that night, Kendrick came up with the concept for To Pimp A Butterfly.

“He gets no credit for being a producer but he had a vision for this album,” FlyLo wrote via Twitter. “Dude gets involved w the whole process.”

He also expressed that Kendrick nabbing George Clinton for his “Wesley’s Theme” production is “a dream come true.”
