GZA’s new album, Legend of A Liquid Sword is finished and set for release in mid-November. “Legend of The Liquid Sword” is an actual title of a Kung Fu movie, plus GZA explains his third album will be more like his first, Liquid Swords. Similar to that album, his true-blood son narrates this time just as the kid from the Shogun movie did on Liquid Swords.
From the eight tracks previewed in the Wu’s newest studio in midtown Manhattan, the 14-track CD contains pure heat. With producers like RZA, Wu producer Mathematics, Bink (Jay-Z), Jay Wax Garfield (Cormega), Jaz-O, DJ Muggs from Cypress Hill and himself, the lyrical perfectionist delivers aural atomic bombs over very colorful beatscapes.
On the first single “Knock, Knock” produced by J. Wax Garfield, GZA shows why he’s one of hip-hop’s most respected MCs: “I’m the obscene slang kicker with no parental sticker. Advising ya’ll that wise words is much slicker.” RZA, Masta Killa and Sunz Of Man all guest.
A huge highlight: Like his clever raps “Labels” and “Publicity,” GZA drops “Fame,” in which he rhymes famous names in lines like “Jesse Owen the money for the weed Bubba Sparxxx,” “Use Bernie’s Mac to search Veronica’s Webb” and “Jason Kidd took his first step with Jimmy’s Walker.”
