Freeway has shared his thoughts on the debate between Meek Mill’s “Dreams and Nightmares” and Lil Uzi Vert’s “Just Wanna Rock” being the current anthem of Philadelphia.
Sitting down with VladTV, the former Roc-A-Fella rhymer — a Philly native himself — weighed in on the recent debate between the two songs and their importance in the City of Brotherly Love.

Freeway acknowledged that “Dreams and Nightmares” is very much part of the canon of classic Philadelphia rap records, but gave the edge to Lil Uzi Vert when it comes to which song currently reigns supreme in his hometown.
“It’s definitely right now at the moment Lil Uzi ‘Just Wanna Rock,’ hands down,” he said. “We’re going to hear the classics like ‘What We Do,’ like my jawn, we definitely going to hear Meek jawn, the classics, you know? But as far as right now, what got it on lock, Lil Uzi got it.”
Freeway’s comments come after DJ Drama claimed Uzi’s “Just Wanna Rock” has “replaced” Meek’s “Dreams and Nightmares” as the unofficial song of both Philadelphia and their beloved Eagles NFL team.
“I think it’s fair to say that ‘Just Wanna Rock’ has replaced — with all due respect — ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ as the new anthem of Philadelphia, as the new anthem of the Philadelphia Eagles this year,” he told TMZ ahead of the Eagles’ Super Bowl LVII clash against the Kansas City Chiefs (which they narrowly lost).

Meek Mill seemingly responded to Drama’s claim by reminding his Twitter followers about the lasting impact of his Dreams and Nightmares intro worldwide.
“Intro been lighting the world for 10 years!” he wrote. “Like shaking rooms for years!”
Lil Uzi Vert also gave his two cents on the debate at the 2023 Grammys Awards earlier this month, where he humbly rejected DJ Drama’s lofty praise and said it’s too early for “Just Wanna Rock” to dethrone “Dreams and Nightmares.”
“I don’t think so,” Uzi said when asked about the debate. “That song like been around for a very long time, and that song is still hitting exactly the same way. I’m just gonna have to see, you know, in a couple of years or a decade or whatever.

“[Meek’s] a big homie from Philly, and that’s like one of my big homies. So I just like, feed off the energy that he gives to be able to even produce or put out that type of music. Hopefully he would hope that for me too. Not yet, though – it’s too early to tell.”
The Philadelphia Eagles used Meek’s “Dreams and Nightmares” as their anthem for their Super Bowl LII championship run in 2018, with NBC Sports Philadelphia calling it “the greatest Philly sports anthem ever.”

“Just Wanna Rock” wasn’t able to conjure the same success, however, as the Eagles lost a nail-biter to the Chiefs that saw Patrick Mahomes win his second Super Bowl ring in four years.
