P.E. were due to play six shows in Australia between October 2 and 24 as part of their On the Grid 35th Anniversary Tour, hitting cities such as Syndey, Perth and Melbourne.

The Daily Mail reported the news by running with the headline: “Hip-hop legends Public Enemy cancel entire Australian tour just days out – after Chuck D and Flavor Flav dropped half their Aussie dates from the line-up.”

At the top of the article was a side-by-side image of Flavor Flav and Taylor Swift, although it’s worth noting that the photo appeared in an embedded video about Flav attending one of the singer’s recent shows.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Flavor of Love star aired his grievances with the publication and what he viewed as a misleading headline.

“So much disrespect and false news in one headline,,, let me set it straight,” he wrote. “We have to postpone some shows because my partner @MrChuckD requires immediate eye surgery. We put health above wealth.”

He added: “Why use a picture of Taylor for clickbait,?? PE is in the [Rock & Roll Hall of Fame]. We good.”

Chuck D also addressed the tour postponement on the social media platform, sharing more details about his eye issues.

“Thx yall im. Not sick. Had 2 torn retinas this year and upon repair the right eye needs cataract surgery this month because it accelerated,” he tweeted.

“The eye is 64 years old those that are in tune with their elders are familiar although they don’t rhyme high speed on a stage. Ish shappens [praying hands emoji].”

Despite his irritated outburst, Flavor Flav recently proved that he hasn’t lost his sense of humor, even at the ripe old age of 65.

In August, the Public Enemy legend was the latest rapper to be targeted by social media prankster Gerald Huston, who filmed himself excitedly running up to Flav on the street and mistakenly referring to him Boosie Badazz.

“Oh my God, that was you. Lil Boosie, bro!” Huston said in the clip while dapping up the Long Island native, who was draped in a Team USA Olympic tracksuit and matching jewelry.

Taking the (intentional) case of mistaken identity in stride, Flav responded: “Everybody say that. But that’s my guy, you know what I’m saying?”

Catching the prankster off guard, he then said: “I am his daddy. You want me to be yours too?” prompting laughter from onlookers.
