Ice Spice has become the latest celebrity to face the wrath of Azealia Banks thanks to her Y2K aesthetic.

The Bronx rap star continued the rollout for her new album on Monday (June 24) by posting a seductive video on Instagram of herself rapping along to her latest single “Phat Butt” while wearing a tight-fitting pink dress and long curly orange wig.

The clip evidently got under Banks’ skin as it prompted a vicious response from the “212” star over the stylistic nuances her of turn of the millenium-inspired album title.

Reposting the video on her Instagram Stories, Banks wrote: “Somebody needs to tell @icespice Absolutely nothing about this aesthetically, performance wise, production wise is Y2K at all…. This is like VIM early Nicki Minaj pack weave.

“We need a new hair color and a new facial expression. Ice I love you down but you should put the halt button, drop David lachapplle [sic] and re do this. Big butts and BBL bodies are the ANTITHESIS OF Y2K.”

The Harlem native then proceeded to post examples of the Y2K aesthetic, including photos of Jennifer Lopez and TLC.

She concluded her lecture by writing: “Baby phat, sidekicks were 2002 and on. ‘Y2K’ is 1997-2001.”

This isn’t the first time that Ice Spice has been criticized over Y2K. Earlier this month, she unveiled the cover art for her eagerly anticipated debut album but it was met with a largely negative reception from fans.

The artwork shows the “Munch” hitmaker flaunting her derrière in front of a street wall and features several nods to her New York City roots including graffiti, a custom subway sign and trashcan spray-painted with the name of her album.

After sharing the image on Instagram, Ice’s post was flooded with critical comments such as: “Y2K could’ve been a futuristic take. Like how did we miss it. This looks like ghetto sesame street.”

Another unimpressed fan joked: “Maybe putting the title on the trash can wasn’t the best idea.”

Ice later responded to the backlash and expressed her gratitude to legendary photographer David LaChapelle for shooting the cover.

“David LaChapelle is #Y2K! soooo sweet + legendary he didn’t even charge me cus he fucks wit a real bitch,” she wrote alongside a polaroid photo of them together.

“thank U for all the incredible art you’ve put out through the years this cover means everything to me [heart emoji] & yes Y2K was placed on the trash can on purpose can u guess why?”

Despite standing by the divisive artwork, Ice Spice has since issued an alternate cover that depicts her as a literal New York giant terrorizing the Big Apple.
