Ice Spice has been hit with Nicki Minaj comparisons after releasing her latest single “Phat Butt.”
Right after dropping the track on Friday (June 21), fans remarked how similar the Bronx native sounded to Minaj, with several pointing out that her flow sounded very similar to her Pinkprint song, “Shanghai.”

Ice Spice’s Instagram post was flooded with negative comments about the apparent likeness.
One said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if this was one of Nicki’s throwaways. Regardless I like that she switched up the flow. Still don’t care to see her axx all day but you can’t win em all.”

One fan even claimed: “I think Nicki wrote this.”

Ice Spice has been open about the fact that Nicki Minaj has had a big influence on her career.
“I was, like, nervous to get there,” she told Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe about meeting Minaj for the first time. “Once I got there, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m chilling.’ But then I heard her, like, say something, and then I got nervous.

“When she hugged me, I started crying… I cried, but I walked away. Like, I didn’t say anything to her. I just feel like, ‘Bro, like just the journey.’ You know, I love Nicki, and meeting her was great and everything, but for me, it also just mostly felt like, ‘This is a full circle moment.’
The pair have since collaborated on two huge hits from last year: “Princess Diana (Remix)” and “Barbie World” from the Barbie movie soundtrack.

The love is mutual as Nicki Minaj previously called Ice Spice the “princess of rap.”
“Btchs slow so I gih dem a pass. [fire emoji] Nah. Grah! No more passes Princess…Let’s go,” Nicki wrote under a post on Ice Spice’s Instagram.
Nicki Minaj’s comment referenced lyrics from the Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana” song, taken from her debut Like..? EP.
Ice Spice reacted to Nicki Minaj’s support on Twitter by simply writing: “omg.” Her post was accompanied by an old tweet from 2020 where she rehearsed her response to Nicki following her.
