YG Has Mixed Feelings About 'Still Brazy' Album: 'It Wasn't Supposed To Sound Like That'

YG‘s 2016 album Still Brazy may be one of the most acclaimed entries in his catalog, but the rapper himself doesn’t hold it in such high regard.

Chatting with fellow West Coast native ScHoolboy Q on the latest episode of his 4HUNNID Podcast, YG came clean about his mixed feelings towards his sophomore LP.

“I fuck with certain parts of it, but you gotta understand…,” he said, before Q interjected: “Oh my God! That shit is so hard!”

YG continued: “I was in a dark-ass place when I made that album. My album wasn’t even supposed to sound like that. I started recording that album right around the time I got shot.

“I was just going through all that shit. And then I fell out with the homies. N-gga, I was in a dark-ass place. I had my newborn daughter but it was just dark. I was making shit that I didn’t even wanna… I was trying to be on some other shit but it wasn’t there. So I had to do the dark shit.”

The Compton native concluded by saying he “respects” Still Brazy but doesn’t believe it was an authentic reflection of his function-friendly personality.

Since launching the 4HUNNID Podcast in February, the otherwise terse YG has opened up about a plethora of topics, including attending Diddy‘s parties.

Earlier this month, he and special guest Devin Haney explained why they attended the embattled mogul’s functions, though one was noticeably more comfortable with the conversation than the other.

For Haney, the answer was simple: “Diddy had a bunch of hoes at the house. I made my way to the house … Man, there’s hoes everywhere and we know that Diddy got some parties.”

The boxer then asked YG if he had also partied with Puffy, to which he replied: “I be there with the bitches and all that.”

Outside of podcasting, the “Who Do You Love?” hitmaker has also been making moves in the music industry. Earlier this month, his 4HUNNID label announced a new venture with BMG, effectively ending its previous deal with Epic Records.

“BMG is making big waves in the industry right now,” YG told Billboard. “This partnership will take my music to new heights. The BMG team understands the vision for my music and business. Excited for what’s to come and the future of my brand.”
