Yelawolf Gave Away $100K Worth Of Clothes After Mac Miller's Death: 'I Was So Hurt'

Yelawolf has reflected on Mac Miller‘s death, revealed the tragedy hit him so hard he decided to part ways with some of his prized possessions.

During an appearance on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, the former Shady Records rapper opened up about his surprisingly close friendship with Mac, who died of a drug overdose in 2018.

Following his passing, Yela said he was inspired to “do something nice” in Mac’s honor and so he gave away his entire wardrobe, estimating the total value of his donations to be $100,000.

“I love Mac, man. Mac is the best, dude. I love Mac so much,” he said. “When Mac passed, dude, I was so hurt from that that I gave away everything I own. That’s a true story. I gave away every article of clothing that I own when Mac passed, the next day. Just ’cause I felt like I needed to do something nice.

“No one really knew how cool he and I really were ’cause we didn’t do music. When we first kicked it, it was the cypher. It wasn’t even a cypher, it was like a freestyle for the XXL cover. So everybody did a verse. And Mac, dude, he might have been, God, 19? I mean, he was young, young.”

“And I pull a cigarette out and we were chilling. He’s lit,” he continued. “He’s like, ‘Oh, that’s what we’re doing?’ He pulled a cigarette out, he fucking lit a cigarette up. And it was a very affectionate, almost an instant big brother role. Like, ‘Alright, dude. Let’s go. I see you.'”

Yelawolf later reflected on touring with Mac Miller overseas and texting him shortly before his untimely death.

“He went on to make incredible music, obviously,” he said. “We’ve done tours together, dude. I’ve done shows with Mac in the Swiss Alps, bro. That was my homie, man. When he passed, I had just text him weeks before. Just tapping in, you know what I mean?

“And when he passed, I was like, ‘Man, I need to purge. I’ve got too much. I have too many things.’ I didn’t feel worthy of having the things. So I just took all my shit and put it on hangers and set it outside my store and I told everybody. I put it on Instagram. I said, ‘Come get it. Come get an outfit.’

“Like jewelry, hats, shoes, clothes, everything. I gave away like $100,000 worth of fucking fashion. Just dumped it all and started over. Started my collection over. Rest in peace, man.”

Yelawolf and Mac Miller were both part of the XXL Freshman Class in 2011 alongside Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, YG, died of a drug overdose in 2018, CyHi The Prynce, Lil B and others.

“Eminem and Yela have a funny sense of humor together,” he said. “Yelawolf is super ill. He brings a different perspective. It’s always good to have people that have something to say.

“He denitely knows who he is, and that’s one thing Em has always also been [good at]: zoning in on who he is. [Shady Records] has a really good roundup of MCs. Yelawolf definitely fits in, but has his own style.”

Mac also agreed with Yelawolf’s comments that white rappers shouldn’t use the N-word.

“I agree with Yelawolf: I don’t think any white rapper should be using [the N-word],” he said. “Whether you’re a rapper or a cashier, [that rule applies]. I find it ridiculous that it’s even up for debate. I wasn’t raised to ever use that word, so I don’t see any circumstance where that would be appropriate.”
