Vybz Kartel is officially engaged after asking longtime girlfriend Sidem Öztürk for her hand in marriage just months after his prison release.

Sharing a video of the moment he got down on one knee in an Instagram post on Tuesday (November 5), the dancehall star vowed to never her side.

“It’s Official #1Wife,” he wrote with ring and heart emojis. “I Proposed in Prison, Proposed in #RealLife. You were there when I needed you most and I’ll never leave you baby. I cherish all the times you came to visit me and told me that it’s going to be ok. I cherish all the times we spoke on the phone and in real life in the box. We laughed together we cried together and now we celebrate together!

“You’re my best friend and my companion and I pray to God we stay together for as long as I Live. I Love you baby #iloveyou #wifeforlife #Family1st #GodistheGreatest”

Vybz Kartel was initially sentenced to life in prison in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, but his conviction was overturned earlier this year after serving 13 years.

Talking to Fox 5 New York‘s Lisa Evers following his release, Kartel – who battles the auto-immune condition Graves’ Disease – revealed his post-prison plans.

“Healthwise, you know I’m working on my health right now, but the feeling of just being free is just an amazing feeling,” he said. “I could be better, but I’m super upbeat.”

And as part of his new routine, he’s already invested in a bike and a treadmill.

In June, Evers spoke to his attorney, Isat Buchanan, who revealed that Kartel needed medical help last year.

“Mr. Palmer’s illness is actually life-threatening,” he told the longtime New York journalist. “His neck was swollen, if you think of a shirt that is about 18.5 inches in the neck area, you couldn’t close the collar on his neck and that’s how bad it is in this moment.”

He continued: “His face is actually swollen. And one other thing. He always wears glasses; in this condition, that causes his eyes to protrude.”

Kartel was kept in solitary confinement for up to 23 hours per day and his attorneys argued he was being prevented from getting clean air.
