Trey Songz is pushing back after a default judgment of $11 million was issued against him for failing to respond to a battery lawsuit filed in Las Vegas.

A police officer named Tyrelle Dunn sued the singer back in 2023, alleging that in November 2021, his wife was “escorted” to Songz’s hotel room at The Cosmopolitan, where she was “assaulted, tried to leave and had her phone taken away.”

Dunn said he heard his wife’s cries for help, and was then attacked. He said the resulting injuries were severe enough that he missed a month of work.

Songz never responded to Dunn’s suit, and a default judgment was entered against him on October 10 for $11,277,961.37.

Now according to new documents obtained by InTouch Weekly, Trey’s legal team is arguing the singer was never actually served with the lawsuit and only learned about it in the media.

“Good cause exists to set aside the default judgment because [Tyrelle] did not properly effectuate service of process of the summons and complaint on [Trey] pursuant to Nevada or California law,” the suit reads. “[Trey] did not know about this lawsuit until November 27, 2024, when he received Instagram messages from fans extending their support after news broke about Dunn’s default judgment.

“[Trey] promptly engaged civil defense counsel over the Thanksgiving holiday and filed this Motion to set aside the default judgment the next week. [Trey] deserves to have his day in court to defend himself, rather than being subjected to a massive default judgment which was improperly obtained in an underlying case that [Trey] knew nothing about until a week prior to filing this Motion. The enforcement of this default judgment will be devastating to [Trey] and will ruin his life.”

The filing also notes that a full investigation was conducted by Las Vegas PD and they found no wrongdoing on Trey’s behalf, clearing him of any charges.

In addition, Trey’s legal team said that Dunn served the guards at the singer’s gated community but not the singer himself, therefore rendering it invalid.

A judge has yet to rule on the matter.

At the time the investigation was complete in 2022, Vegas PD issued a statement saying: “The LVMPD has concluded the investigation into the sexual assault allegations against [Songz] and determined that no criminal charges will be filed. If any new evidence comes to light, the case will be reopened for further investigation.”

Trey’s attorneys then issued a statement, saying: “We are pleased that Trey Songz has been cleared of wrongdoing and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigation has officially been closed. We are grateful to the LVMPD for the professional police work done and their thorough investigation, which included findings of inconsistency in witness testimony and insufficient evidence. We are pleased that Trey can now return to what he does best, entertaining.”
