T.I. has flexed his comedy chops during an appearance on BET’s revived Comic View, humorously poking fun at “new age” trap rappers.

In a clip circulating on social media, the Atlanta rap legend playfully compares today’s trap music stars with trailblazers like himself, Jeezy and Yo Gotti.

“Listen, the first generation of trap music — people like me, Jeezy, Yo Gotti — we were rapping about things we had done, got away with and moved on,” he said.

“You listen to these new age trap music, oh, they talking ’bout shit they finna do tomorrow,” he added to an outpouring of laughter from the crowd.

Tip’s joke echoes his recent comments about the current state of Hip Hop where he acknowledged both the abundance of talent alongside the over-saturation of the genre.

“This generation reminds me of every other generation,” he said during an appearance on Shaquille O’Neal’s The Big Podcast with Shaq. “You got some people who are exceptionally dope, and some people who are just alright. You know what I mean?”

He continued: “But it’s a lot more of it to choose from now. I feel that, actually, what they’ve done with music is equivalent to if they were to open up the doors of the arena and say, ‘Anybody think you can play basketball? Come on out the stands out here to the floor. Here go you a jersey, man. Get in the game.’”

Last summer, news broke that T.I. had been tapped to make his TV stand-up debut in Kevin Hart‘s upcoming Comic View reboot, just 18 months after first venturing into the comedy world.

As reported by Variety, Hart taped the event on July 6 (his birthday) at the Resorts World in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event was hosted by Mike Epps and boasted several seasoned stand-up comedians including Bresha Webb, Tommy Davidson, Taccara Williams and Wild N’Out‘s D.C. Young Fly.

“I’m thrilled to partner with BET for the return of Comic View as part of Hartbeat Weekend making this can’t-miss celebration of comedy, music and culture,” Hart said in a statement at the time.

“Having hosted Comic View in the past, I understand first-hand the incredible platform this franchise offers for comedians to showcase their talents on a national stage and I’m excited to continue that tradition in Las Vegas.”
