Russ, who’s been a trailblazer in independent success, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday (June 17) to give credit to Tommy Richman for not being stagnant.
“He’s moving with a sense of urgency and capitalizing on momentum unlike a lot of artists who catch 1 song and parade around for a year and then miss their moment,” he wrote. “Kudos to him and his team.”

He added: “You can tell the artists who are prepared to blow up vs the ones who aren’t. Move like you know it’s gonna happen.”
Russ’ comments came in response to a post about Tommy Richman’s debut album Coyote being on the way.

A fan came across Russ’ posts and called out Tommy Richman for being an “industry plant.”
Russ was having none of it and claimed the person’s “ego” couldn’t handle not knowing him before he became “cool.”
“Yall call anyone who blows up that wasn’t on your radar an industry plant cuz your ego can’t handle not knowing something cool before everyone else did,” he wrote.
In October last year, Russ showed off his six-figure earnings from being an independent artist and owning his catalog.

“For inspirational purposes,” he wrote. “This is the money I made this week off just the masters of my independent catalogue. It fluctuates weekly obviously but this is just to give insight.
“You do not need to be on the radio or signed or have the biggest album in the word to fucking cake. You have to have a lot of good music and own it lol.”
