Rick Ross has revisited the time his ankle monitor went off while visiting Barack Obama at The White House in 2016.

The MMG rapper had been fitted with the monitor the year before following his arrest for aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

Sitting down with Complex alongside Meek Mill, Ross said: “I was invited by President Obama and I appreciate him and I was under house arrest at the time. We were in the setting and I heard it go beep.”

In the video, Rozay then slides down the sofa as if attempting to hide before saying: “The Secret Service start moving because everybody gave away their phones, all their electronics. I’m like, ‘Damn.’ And then it went off and Obama had to say something.”

But the Miami rapper refused to divulge exactly what Obama had said, commenting: “I ain’t gonna repeat it out of respect for Obama though. Thank you for having me there.”

Meek Mill, who was also on house arrest at the time, revealed that he was told of the incident by his then-girlfriend Nicki Minaj, who also attended the White House meeting.

Rick Ross was invited to The White House in 2016 by Obama, along with a number of other rappers including J. Cole, Busta Rhymes, Pusha T, Wale and Ludacris in support of the then-president’s Brother’s Keeper initiative.

Rozay previously discussed the incident during a 2020 interview with Brian “B.Dot” Miller, saying: “It really wasn’t cool. It was really a pivotal moment … I’m out on bond, I’m in a situation where they not really letting me travel. It’s a serious thing and I get an opportunity … to come see [Obama] despite my situation.”

Ross and Meek are set to release their first joint album together, Too Good to Be True, on November 10. The longtime collaborators announced the project back in October with a cinematic trailer that featured an appearance from DJ Khaled.

The two also released a clip where Diddy describes hearing Ross and Meek’s single “Shaq & Kobe” for the first time. “That’s when I heard you came and played me the joints,” he says.

“And then when I saw the video, I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!’ Even Meek, I was like, ‘Yeah, that n-gga’s bucket [hat] hittin’ just right.’ I’m like, ‘This is refreshing.’ You know what I’m saying?”
