redveil has accomplished more at the age of 19 than the average musician, but one of his most cherished triumphs came when he was even younger.
The “pg baby” rapper recently sat down for a chat with HipHopDX and talked about one of the most surreal experiences of his speedy come-up. In 2020, when the Maryland native was only 16, Tyler, the Creator shared his song “Drown” on Instagram. This was particularly dreamlike considering the Odd Future founder is redveil’s “biggest inspiration ever.”

“I still kind of reflect on that now,” he said. “It happened like really, really early … that was the first year when people even started to listen to my music, like at all.”
Referring to the co-sign as one of the “biggest immediate signs” to keep making music, he added: “To be able to like catch the attention of somebody that’s that high up in terms of inspiration … it still feels like it didn’t happen.”
Later in the interview, the DX Rising Star ranked his favorite albums by Tyler, the Creator, and some of his placements are guaranteed to surprise many.
“The way I enjoy his music is in like an old-head way of like, ‘oh, this came out when I was in high school, so this is way better than everything else,’” he explained. “When I was first really falling in love with music and making music, that was what was driving it — the one’s that he dropped [in] like 2013 and like 2017.”
Starting from the bottom, his list goes as follows: Goblin (2011), Call Me If You Get Lost (2021), IGOR (2019), Bastard (2009), Chery Bomb (2015) and Wolf (2013) tied in second place, Flower Boy (2017).
Considering redveil is also a producer known for his raw and grimy sound, it makes sense that he placed the critically panned Cherry Bomb so high. He has become popular for his intense and edgy approach to making music, and other artists recognize this as well.
