Nipsey Hussle‘s murder shook the Hip Hop community, and it’s now been alleged that it could have been orchestrated by the LAPD, according to a former officer.
On March 15, ex-LAPD officer Bernard Robins was a guest on the Comedy Hype podcast to discuss the February sentencing of Nipsey’s killer, Eric Holder Jr. When the host brought up the police organization’s questionable track record and asked if he believed that they played a role in Nipsey’s death, Robins didn’t deny that it could be possible.

“I think that there could have been,” he began. “I’ve never witnessed any law enforcement officers say that there was something going on or even eluded to it. But there’s that possibility. We know a lot of the positive things that he was doing in the community. So, there’s definitely that possibility that they were that determined to stop what he had going, that they probably could have sent [Eric Holder Jr.] to go and do that.”
He continued: “I think also that they said [Eric] was an informant for law enforcement. That was a part of the issue that he had with Nipsey Hussle allegedly so we don’t know. We don’t know what was going on behind those closed doors.”
Months after Nipsey’s death in 2019, the Los Angeles Police Department reportedly denied a Los Angeles Times report that Nipsey Hussle was at the center of a LAPD investigation.
The original report stated that officials in the Police Department and city attorney’s office were reportedly looking into his alleged gang affiliations. They were investigating Nipsey, his property and business associates in an effort to determine if the strip mall at the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue was a gang activity hub.
TMZ reported that Nip was “not going to be prosecuted for any type of gang activity at the time of his death,” and that LAPD was simply attempting to curb gang activity around the area where his Marathon Clothing store was located.
Sources close to the LAPD and Los Angeles City Attorney have said they were never targeting Nipsey. However, no one from either agency could explain why Nipsey’s name was initially mentioned.

Eric Holder Jr. was sentenced to 60 years behind bars in February 2023 for the shooting death of Nipsey Hussle on March 31, 2019 outside his Marathon Clothing store. The sentencing of Holder had been delayed for a myriad of reasons after he was found guilty of first-degree murder in July’s trial.
Holder reportedly “stared straight” during the proceedings and didn’t look up when the 60-year sentence was read. He was not eligible to receive the death penalty, but will likely be spending the rest of his life in prison.
