Nelly and Ashanti may have rekindled their relationship, but a DJ recently reminded the St. Louis rapper about what could happen if he fumbles her once again.
The couple were posted up at a nightclub earlier this week where Ashanti handled emceeing duties on the mic, and the DJ threw on “his favorite song,” which happened to be 2008’s “The Way That I Love You.”

The lead single from her fourth album The Declaration’s, the breakup anthem found the former Murder Inc. singer detailing her split from Nelly in the 2000s.
“I’m gonna do it one time, just one time,” the DJ implored as Ashanti laughed, before singing along to the lyrics.

“After all of the times that we tried/ I found out we were living a lie/ And after all of this love that we made/ I know now you don’t love me the same,” she sang over the LT Hutton production.
Nelly, on the other hand, let it be known that he definitely wasn’t feeling the song choice. Rocking a blue Givenchy sweater and a thick chain, the “Hot In Herre” rapper turned around and jokingly gave a thumbs down to the DJ.
Nelly and Ashanti dated on-and-off for about a decade from 2003 to 2013. Rumors of a reconciliation got hot and heavy earlier this year when they joined each other on stage for a steamy performance of their “Body On Me” collab.
Nelly confirmed that they are indeed back together during an appearance on the Boss Moves With Rasheeda show in September.
“Yeah, we cool again,” he said with a huge grin. “I think it surprised both of us. It wasn’t anything that I don’t think planned. I think we were both doing pretty much what we do. Sometimes being separate you understand one another more.”
The St. Lunatics leader blessed Ashanti last month when he showered her with plenty of lavish gifts for her 43rd birthday, leaving her speechless.

In a video of the birthday surprise, Ashanti could be seen entering a room full of friends. Her expression quickly turned to one of disbelief when a jeweler laced her with the bust-down watch that matches Nelly’s, as well as a chain.
A shocked Ashanti repeatedly hugged and kissed Nelly while trying on the glistening wristwear for the first time.
