Nas has given some much-deserved praise to DJ Kool Herc for his contributions to Hip Hop.
Nasty Nas gave the Father of Hip Hop his flowers during the Hip Hop 50 show at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on Friday (August 11). The “Ether” rapper appeared to kneel before the OG, praising him for all but creating the genre in the first place.

“Kool Herc, thank you,” he said. “We all thank you! We love you!”
Herc then gave his signature move by holding his crossed arms above his head — though, in a bittersweet move, it was also revealed that the elder statesman was far removed from his younger halcyon days, as he’d been walking with a cane. Check out the tribute below.
Kool Herc has been credited with being the founder of a lot of elements of modern Hip Hop, including the break, the funk undertones, and even dubbing the word “breakdancing” to refer to the popular dance style of the 1980s. Herc (real name Clive Campbell) was also recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the music influence category.
As for Nas, this wasn’t the only elder statesman of the genre to get his due from the Queens native.
Earlier that same evening, the King’s Disease rapper buried the hatchet with MC Shan.
In a video from what appears to be the backstage area of the Hip Hop 50 Live concert at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, NY, on Friday (August 11), the former Juice Crew MC can be seen approaching God’s Son and offering what he called “the olive branch.”

“The olive branch has been extended,” Shan says in the clip, to which Nas replies: “Talk your shit!”
Shan continues: “Love that muthafucka right there! That’s all I can say! And I, uh, I got in my feelings, and I apologize to my brother like a real man. And you see us here, right? Appreciate y’all!”

MC Shan tore into Nas back in July, telling him to keep his name out of his mouth if he’s not going to invite him to partake in any of the Hip Hop 50 celebrations that he helped organized.
But now, it seems to be all love, with no sucker MC nonsense involved.
