Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun have taken home the Worst Director award at the 2023 Razzies for their recent comedy-drama film Good Mourning.
The 43rd annual Golden Raspberry Awards – also known as the Razzies – is a tongue-in-cheek response to the Oscars which honors the worst films of the year. This year’s list included big names such as Tom Hanks and Jared Leto.

Released in May 2022, Good Mourning was written and directed by MGK (real name Colson Baker) and Mod Son (real name Derek Smith). The rapper stars as London Clash, an actor who has to choose between his career and the pursuit of a love interest. Comedian Pete Davidson also makes an appearance in a supporting role.

Machine Gun Kelly had several acting roles under his belt before his directorial debut, including turns in the 2018 film Bird Box and 2022 film One Way.
The “Bad Things” rapper began his filmmaking career with Mod Sun, co-directing the movie Downfalls High in 2021. Both this and Good Mourning were met with largely negative feedback from critics and audience members.

Furthermore, Good Mourning only made $21,348 in the box office, following a brief stint in theaters.
Someone who might fair better in the film space is Rihanna, whose recent single “Lift Me Up” is up for Best Original Song at the 2023 Oscars.
The song, with music by Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Goransson and lyrics by Tems and Ryan Coogler, stands as her first Oscar nomination. The poignant tribute track to the late Chadwick Boseman appeared in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The superstar singer will also perform the Oscar-nominated song at the ceremony on Sunday (March 12).
RiRi will make history with the performance, becoming the first Black woman to perform at the Oscars while pregnant. Catherine Zeta-Jones is the only other person to do so – being eight months pregnant when she performed “I Move On” from “Chicago” at the 2003 Oscars with Queen Latifah.

The performance follows Rihanna’s return to the stage for her Super Bowl LVII performance – where she reportedly earned over $350,000 in song royalties in its aftermath thanks to a massive increase in streaming.
