M1 of dead prez has exemplified the profound depths a father is willing to plumb to stand in unwavering support of his loved ones.
On Saturday, (September 30), M1, (real name Mutulu Olugbala), posted a heartwarming video on Instagram. In the clip, the rapper’s daughter Mali lovingly shaved his head in a touching display of solidarity as the duo navigate her alopecia journey.

“Hi, everybody. I’m Mutulu Olugbala, and my wife and family are all around me. As a matter of fact, come here Mali,” the rapper proudly introduced his daughter as she prepared to take a pair of clippers to his hair. “Today, we’re embarking on something special, and it’s gonna start like this.”
“Since my daughter is enduring this journey I have decided to (shave my head, too),” he concluded.

Alongside a heartwarming carousel of family photographs, M1 shared a thoughtful caption that shed light on the source of his inspiration. He revealed that Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’s 7th Congressional District and has alopecia herself, was a driving force behind this heartfelt act.
“Everyone send your birthday wishes to my daughter Mali-Ma’at!! It’s hard to wrap my mind around the amazing human she has become. And as you can see we are taking on this journey with her alopecia together! If you wonder why I cut my hair (even tho some of you may be glad),” wrote M1, accompanied by a laughing emoji.
“It is in solidarity with Mali and it also happens to be National Alopecia Month. I am blown away by her courage daily and love being her Dad. And in the last slide I’m with Congresswoman @ayannapressley who has been an inspiration from beginning of our journey. Keep going y’all!! Defined as an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss on the scalp, face, and other areas of the body, alopecia is a common disease that affects as many as 6.7 million people in the U.S. alone, according to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.
Last week, Timbaland, who also suffers from alopecia, shined a spotlight on his journey to regaining his hairline via hair transplants.
“Working out, changing your body, I can put the work in,” said Tim, taking to Instagram. “This one — I have to go get work. There’s no getting around it. I started seeing things getting lighter and I’m like, ‘You know what? Let me do it earlier than later.’ I’m tryna tell y’all — don’t be jealous!”
