Logic‘s recently-released College Park album features a song with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane alongside rap icons Redman and Statik Selektah, and the Maryland rapper has given fans some insight into its creation.

In a behind-the-scenes video from the studio posted on Wednesday (March 1), Logic jokes that he “just took out my chains so I could give Seth rap energy” as Seth steps up to the mic.

“I can use all the rap energy I can get my hands on,” MacFarlane replies.

After he belts out the chorus to the track, titled “Self Medication,” Logic tells him: “Its like Sinatra. It’s Sinatra in the flesh.”

College Park is Logic’s first independent release following his departure from Def Jam in 2022. Produced entirely by Producers Lounge, the LP features 17 tracks stacked with features from the likes of RZA, Bun B and more.

In January, Urban Outfitters announced a special “varsity green vinyl” to celebrate College Park being Logic’s first independent album. The brand then confirmed on Twitter it was limited to 500 copies and that all copies were sold out in just one minute.

Prior to the new album, Logic’s last full-length LP was June 2022’s Vinyl Days — which marked his final Def Jam release. The project was recorded in just 12 days in an effort to fulfill his contract and depart the label. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with features from DJ Premier, RZA, Royce Da 5’9″, The Game, Action Bronson, Wiz Khalifa, Russ, AZ and more.

The Visionary Music Group MC then left the famed Hip Hop label in favor of a deal at BMG that would allow him to own his masters.

“There’s a lot of bullshit in the music industry,” Logic said of the move in a statement. “I’m just glad to move on to a place where I can be independent and respected as an artist, and feel like I’m in control of my career.”

Logic is currently in his executive producer bag as well, recently announcing his role as EP of Juicy J’s forthcoming album that’s set to be in line with a J Dilla and Alchemist kind of sound.

“For those of you who don’t know, I, Logic, am actually executive producing one of Juicy J’s next albums,” he said in a video posted to Instagram in January. “It’s the most Dilla, Hip Hop, Alchemist, gangsta, Madlib dopest shit ever.”

When he asked Juicy how he felt about it, the Memphis native added, “It’s some real shit.”

No release date has been set for the project as of yet.
