New York, NY

Lil Uzi Vert’s bodyguard has been arrested for gun possession and allegedly posing as a law enforcement officer during a traffic stop in New York.

According to the New York Post, Uzi’s bodyguard, Kevin Nelson, was detained by NYPD in Manhattan on Monday (March 27) after he was caught carrying an illegal semi-automatic firearm.

Nelson was in the front passenger seat of a Ford F-450 that had been pulled over during a traffic stop at 100 Barclays Street around 5:30 pm. During that time, he also allegedly tried to lie to officers about being a cop.

NYPD quickly learned the 40-year-old Philadelphia resident was not an officer of the law and charged him with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal impersonation.

Lil Uzi Vet was not present in the vehicle at the time, but the arrest came shortly after the Philly rapper performed his hit single “Just Wanna Rock” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The Jersey Club-inspired anthem, which currently sits at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100, is expected to appear on Baby Pluto’s long-awaited new album The Pink Tape.

Uzi addressed the project’s delay during his performance at Rolling Loud California earlier in March, and said the album is finally nearing completion.

“I do make y’all wait a long time for music and I’m so sorry. I thought that shit was cool before but that shit is lame,” he told the crowd. “I’m putting the final touches on Pink Tape and I promise — I made a lot of promises in my life, but this time I promise.”

Generation Now co-founder Don Cannon also recently shared some details about The Pink Tape, revealing that Uzi has recorded nearly 700 songs for the tape, while adding it won’t have any features.

“Right now, we working on the album and he got 680 songs [from the last] 18 months,” Cannon said on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion. “I call him the Kobe Bryant when he was saying he used to shoot jump shots after the game. That’s what he doing. He give you a hit and do five songs a day. Nobody believe me. I bring them to the studio to see.

“Sober, high, when he used to get high and now he sober doing it. Ain’t nothing changed. He one of them guys, and it’s different because you’re getting all different kind of songs out of him. You might get a rock song, a real rap song because he really rap, you might get the melodic shit that he do.”
