Lil Kim has revealed that she’s written songs for other artists — including Sean “Diddy” Combs back in his “all up in the videos” days in the 1990s.
In an interview with XXL that celebrated her iconic status in the game, the “Black Friday” rapper compared her repertoire to that of Michael Jackson, and revealed that she once wrote for the famous multi-hyphenate.

“To me, my albums start from Notorious K.I.M., ’cause Hard Core is a classic,” she said. “It’s just something different. It’s a staple. It’s monumental, like something that just is like in a museum. You don’t even put a number on it, you know what I mean?”
She continued: “It’s just something like how I look at Michael Jackson’s albums, you know what I mean? It’s just a classic. And by the way, all this talk about writing, I’ve wrote for other people. As it turns out, despite Lil Kim’s earlier claims dating all the way back to 2014 that Biggie wrote all her raps, she was, in fact, a prolific songwriter on some 1990s rap classics. One such example, according to Vibe, is her little-known songwriting credit on “What You Gonna Do,” which was released on the 1997 album, No Way Out, by Puff Daddy & The Family.
But while Lil Kim isn’t afraid to demand respect from the youngins in the game, one rapper who was quick to pay tribute to the Queen was Coi Leray, who invoked memories of the infamous Hard Core cover when she let the world know about her upcoming eponymous sophomore album.
Taking to Twitter on Friday (May 19), Benzino‘s daughter revealed that Coi will be dropping on June 23 on all streaming platforms, and the teaser cover is reminiscent of the legendary Hard Core poster from the female rap pioneer.
“Introducing my second album “COI” dropping June 23rd,” she wrote on Twitter.
And Kim isn’t afraid to return the love and pay tribute to the legends that inspired her.

The Queen recently put her own spin on one of Michael Jackson’s most classic dance routines during her opening performance on Janet Jackson’s “Together Again” tour.
On Thursday (May 18), The Shade Room released footage of the legendary lyricist rocking a black fedora, and a black-sequenced outfit while attempting to recreate some of the King of Pop’s most famous dance moves to his 1988 hit, “Smooth Criminal.” Her backup dancers were also dressed in all black and accompanied Lil’ Kim with each shoulder pop and brief sprint across the stage.
