Lil Durk has come under fire on social media after admitting he isn’t a fan of “lyrical” rappers.
The comments were made in an interview with Spotify’s RapCaviar, where Durkio was speaking about his new “All My Life” single which features J. Cole, who many would place in that category of MCs.

“He went crazy. I had to listen to it like four times,” Durk said of Cole’s guest verse on the track. “You know I ain’t super big on lyricist-type rappers. Cole was one of them ones that, like, him and [JAY-Z], you gotta play them 50 times to catch what they’re saying.”
He continued” “Like, if you listen to Lil Wayne right now and you heard some shit 10 years ago that you just catch onto today. But [Cole] definitely gave me one of them verses and I appreciate it. ‘Cause he ain’t even have to, for real. He could’ve given us anything.”
Despite not being a fan of “lyricists,” Durk has previously collaborated with Nas, Big Sean, J.I.D, Cordae, Logic, Chance The Rapper and Talib Kweli. He has also spoken at length about his admiration for JAY-Z.
Regardless, fans were quick to shame the Chicago rapper for his outlook on lyrics, with one person writing in an Instagram comment: “[sad] day when mfs don’t listen to actual lyrics.”

“He’s not super big on lyrics, Lyrical Rappers……Then what is my generation of rappers doing on songs smh,” another fan noted. “I like Dirk’s music but cmon bro. I don’t understand why my generation doesn’t the core of what hip hop is and what is used to stand for.”
“Durk sound slow these kids can’t comprehend lyricism?” another critic chimed in.

In spite of his apathy towards lyricism, Lil Durk echoed his appreciation for J. Cole’s “All My Life” verse in a separate interview with Complex last week, admitting the Dreamville boss “smoked” him on the song.
“He smoked my ass on that one, for one — barely,” Smurk said when asked about his experience working with Cole. “That barely happens. But shout out to J. Cole, shout out to [Dr.] Luke, we made it happen.”
Produced by pop hitmaker Dr. Luke, “All My Life” serves as the lead single from Lil Durk’s upcoming album Almost Healed, which after a slight delay is set to drop on May 26. It also marks the first joint effort from Durk and Cole.
The Windy City native also spoke about “All My Life” in a recent interview with Apple Music, and said the song came about because he was feeling “moody” and he knew J. Cole would be the perfect fit.

He continued: “And I made it happen. I’ve been talking to him, checking up on him, just seeing how you doing. You wait for the right moment for him to ask to be on the song. The song be big.
