In an in-depth interview with Graham Bensinger in 2023, he said: “His feet swole up once and we didn’t know what was going on. It was his kidneys beginning to not work and his body retaining fluid.”
Mike also recalled the first time his son underwent dialysis, saying: “I’ve had to stand there next to my baby boy and as he got administered the anesthetic, it’s a laughing gas so it gives you almost a feeling of laughing.
“I remember him starting to cry and me starting to cry and taking him in the operating room and the doctor’s talking to me. I just pray daily that my child get an opportunity to live a full adult life.”
The medical news caps off a rollercoaster few days for Killer Mike. After winning three Grammys — Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance — on Sunday (February 4), the Atlanta rap legend was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge after an alleged encounter with a security guard at the awards ceremony.
Following the incident, Mike said: “As you can imagine, there was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter. We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.”
According to a law enforcement official who spoke to Rolling Stone, a female security guard asked Mike for his tickets and he allegedly refused. She claims he then pushed her to the ground, causing injuries to her hand and fingers.
A video of the alleged incident made its way online and while it did not show Mike pushing anybody, he did appear to be facing off against various security personnel.
