“The Celebration of Black Cinema & Television has grown tremendously over the last five years,” CCA CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement (via Billboard). “We’re thrilled to be able to recognize such outstanding projects across both film and television, and to honor these incredible actors and filmmakers for their work.”
The Cleveland native earned the Groundbreaker Award for his standout performance as Jabari in the Netflix series he created earlier this year titled Entergalactic.
“This is such an honor I never win anything cant wait to celebrate w all the awesome legends in Dec,” Cudi wrote on Twitter after learning about the honor.
Comedian Bill Bellamy is slated to play host for the December 5 ceremony inside L.A.’s Fairmont Century Plaza.
“It has truly been a year to celebrate,” CCA board member Shawn Edwards added. “The unprecedented amount of content about the Black experience on film and television made it very difficult to choose our honorees for this milestone year.”
It was a long road for Entergalactic to finally land on Netflix on September 30 after Cudi first announced the project during the summer of 2019. He’s so proud of the final product that Cudder deemed it the “greatest piece of art” he’s created in his career.
“ENTERGALACTIC is the greatest piece of art Ive ever made,” he declared earlier this year. “I am so sooo fuckin proud of this show. U have no idea what ur in for. 3 years in the making. Id say watch the show first then consume the album.”
On the music side of things, Kid Cudi has compiled his flagship Man on the Moon trilogy into a limited edition vinyl box set designed by KAWS.
The six-LP box set includes all tracks from Cudi’s Man on the Moon series — 2009’s Man on the Moon: The End of Day, 2010’s Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager and 2020’s Man on the Moon III: The Chosen — along with a large-format companion booklet containing rare photos.

Available now, the collector’s item also comes with its own cover art created by KAWS, which combines elements from the first two Man on the Moon covers. The black-and-white artwork depicts a KAWS-themed astronaut — complete with X’d out eyes and gloves — slumped on a chair in front of a full moon.
