Keyshia Cole is gearing up to give an unfiltered look at her life via her new biographical film, Keyshia Cole: This is My Story — and she’s given fans a sneak peak.

In partnership with Lifetime, the film — which explores the R&B singer’s humble beginnings, rise to fame, and complicated relationship with her now-late mother, Frankie — is set to premiere on the network on June 24 at 8p/7c.

Executive produced by Cole, This is My Story will also be making her acting debut by starring in the project. Longtime TV executive and producer D’Angela Proctor is listed as the film’s director. The film is part of Lifetime’s celebration of Black Music Month.

“As a young girl, I survived so many different situations … I always wanted to make a movie about my life,” the singer says in the film’s teaser trailer, which was released on Friday (June 2). Check it out below.

The film is also expected to feature a new song recorded by Cole — her first solo single since 2021’s “I Don’t Wanna Be in Love.”

“The story follows Keyshia through her early days in Oakland honing her musical talents, to her rise to a multi-platinum selling recording artist and television personality, to her complicated yet warmhearted relationship with her mother Frankie Lons (Debbi Morgan),” a description of the film states. “It’s a story of childhood trauma, tragedy, the complexity of love, and overcoming obstacles to become the best version of oneself.”

Ahead of the trailer’s release, Cole released a statement where she opened up about her inspiration behind the film. She said the role allowed her to “re-live” all the special moments she took for granted.

“This is a story of a daughter’s love for her mother, and although my heart remains broken from her untimely passing, I am honored to be sharing it with the world,” she said.

Cole continued: “Playing the role of myself was a unique opportunity to re-live special moments in my life that also gave me the chance to process her loss in ways I did not expect. I miss her every day, and even though she is not here, her presence was felt throughout this film. Mom, I love you.”

The singer’s mother, Frankie Lons, passed away in October 2021 due to a drug overdose. She was 61 years old.
