“I’ve probably given him maybe $5,000-$6,000,” said the woman, who was led to believe the Khaza rapper was going to be sent to jail unless she sent him money.
The episode went on to reveal that the person she was talking to was actually a scam artist from Philadelphia.

In reaction to the news, Jerleesa said: “It sucks but, I figured after a while that’s what it was.”
Gates himself has not yet responded to the release of the documentary.
A similar scam was previously put in action by people who posed as Bruno Mars online.
In 2021, a woman had her bank account cleaned out by a scammer pretending to be the singer after they developed an online relationship.

The person eventually asked her for money and she obliged, sending two checks worth a combined $100,000.
Police traced the funds to the bank account of fellow Texan Chinwendu Azuonwu, who was arrested on money laundering charges, along with alleged accomplice Basil Amadi.
Court documents reportedly state two cashier’s checks were made out to “Chi Autos” at the request of the bootleg Bruno to cover “tour expenses.” The imposter also told the woman he was abandoning the tour to come be with her.
Houston police believed both low-level criminals were possibly working for international scammers and were hoping they would cooperate to help uncover a potentially larger criminal ring.
