Kendrick Lamar may be the outright favorite to be crowned Hip Hopā€™s MVP of 2024 thanks to his rap battle victory over Drake, but thereā€™s another MC who K. Dot believes is worthy of the gold medal.

In a rare social media post on Thursday (October 17), the Compton native crowned Doechii the ā€œhardestā€ rapper in the game right now.

Alongside the artwork for the Top Dawg Entertainment signeeā€™s recent mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, Kendrick wrote on his Instagram Stories: ā€œthe hardest out [alligator emoji].ā€

Unsurprisingly, Doechii was very appreciative of the lofty praise and replied via her own Instagram page: ā€œThank you Dot. You the greatest.ā€

She later added: ā€œGetting your flowers while you can still smell them >>>.ā€

The shoutout did not come out of the blue as Doechii stars in a new CashApp commercial that was made by Lamarā€™s creative company pgLang, proving he still has close ties to his former label.

Doechii just recently spoke about wanting to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar, although she admitted that she doesnā€™t quite feel ready yet.

ā€œI donā€™t assume anything and I also donā€™t feel entitled to a Kendrick feature but I would absolutely love that. Thatā€™s the goal,ā€ she said on The Joe Budden Podcast. ā€œIā€™m sure that, like, for my debut project, eventually Iā€™m gonna ask Top [Dawg] if he could ask Kendrick, or ask Kendrick myself and see what comes from that.

ā€œBut Iā€™ma be real, I donā€™t think I have the record right now for that opportunity. I think I would have to come a certain way and I donā€™t think Iā€™m ready for that.ā€

The co-hosts were impressed by her answer, with Budden himself saying: ā€œI love that from you.ā€

Itā€™s been a banner year for Doechii, whose Alligator Bites Never Heal has also earned high praise from TDE labelmate ScHoolboy Q.

Following its release in August, the ā€œTHat Partā€ hitmaker wrote on X (formerly Twitter): ā€œJust Here to say DOEcHiiā€¦ dats all I care about at da moment.ā€

The acclaimed project has even been compared to Kendrickā€™s breakout 2011 mixtape Section.80 by the man who discovered and guided the Compton native to superstardom, TDE founder Anthony ā€œTop Dawgā€ Tiffith.

ā€œI have the same feeling I had when KDOT dropped Section 80,ā€ the record executive wrote on Instagram while promoting its release. ā€œSheā€™s 1 of those ones 4sho !!!! #TDE20 #TimelessClassicMusic.ā€
