JT and Doechii have shown their support to the LGBTQIA+ community with “love letters” on social media, as part of an initiative kicking off Pride Month.
Billboard reached out to the two rappers — amongst others — on Saturday (June 1), to offer words to prop up the community.

“I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to the LGBTQ+ community for embracing me so tightly and pushing not only my music, but also championing my personal growth,” Doechii wrote, in part.
“My creative work is heavily influenced by both my Florida roots and the vibrant LGBTQ+ community … my music is dedicated to all those who have encouraged me to strive for excellence and even to those who may have doubted me along the way.”

In her letter, the City Girl wrote: “I know it’s not always easy to exist or love yourself when you don’t always have the support or acceptance from family, friends and these lawmakers, but never give up and keep fighting for yourself!
“Find safe spaces to celebrate and love yourself. Find people who support and can help create opportunities for you to better yourself. When it feels like no one understands you and you just wanna give up, please hold on and stay strong.”

While JT is certainly getting her props for supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, her fellow City Girl Yung Miami is receiving more than her fair share of backlash for selling ‘The Gays’ merch – as some feel it’s disingenuous due to her prior comments.
The City Girls rapper announced the new line in a post on May 13, revealing the clothes will be available on May 17 just ahead of Gay Pride Month. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to GLAAD for LGBTQ programming.
People in the comments quickly brought up Miami’s 2013 tweet where she said she’d beat her son if she ever saw a hint of gayness in him. She later doubled down on the sentiment in a 2018 interview on The Breakfast Club, as the tweet had initially resurfaced at the time.
In the summer of 2018, several months prior to the Breakfast Club interview, Miami issued an apology on social media for her initial tweet.

“My deepest apologies and heart goes out to those who have that tweet and were offended by that. The City Girls appreciate all of their support no matter what their sexuality is,” she wrote at the time.
