Joe Budden has been thinking about expanding his presence past the podcasting circuit, and he has shouted out Vince Staples for helping him with the pivot.
During an X Spaces livestream on Sunday (June 23), the Slaughterhouse MC discussed his growing interest in scripted content and how the Long Beach native’s new Netflix sitcom inspired his pursuit.

“I’m so happy The Vince Staples Show went like that and was a success, ’cause it’s just proof of concept,” he said. “That’s been on my mind for years [and I’m] just trying to get it done.
“Vince has been helpful with me behind the scenes in terms of how to write these things out ’cause I just got a bunch of ideas.”

Last month, Vince discussed his show’s success in an interview with Rolling Stone.
“I’m grateful,” he began. “I got to do something that isn’t really done on that network, or just done in general, with trying to break format and conventional comedy. I’m just trying some new things.
“So, I’m very happy that people embraced it, and we’ll see how they feel about it moving forward. We’re still trying to see what’s going to happen with that. But, looking forward to other opportunities in the medium.”
The “Norf Norf” hitmaker also admitted that he was surprised by how well the five-episode series did.

“I don’t really make things that people [enjoy] like that, just to be honest,” he continued. “I think I have a niche fan base. I’ve never had an extreme level of success. So, I’m always open to people not liking something or it not [being digested] right. I was honestly surprised by the way that it was received.
“But, yeah, man, I just feel like this show went very well, and especially for first-time writing, first-time producing, first-time starring in all of these things, I’m grateful for that.”

Just days after the story was published, The Vince Staples Show was renewed for a second season.
“The people have spoken and the most riveting, captivating, and polarizing show on Netflix is returning for season 2. Get ready for hijinks that only a mother can love. Thank you, Netflix!” the 30-year-old rapper wrote in a statement.
