Joe Budden has applauded Megan Thee Stallion for the success of “Hiss,” even though some of his podcast co-hosts had doubts about her and the track.

Speaking on his self-titled podcast, Budden congratulated Megan on topping the Billboard Hot 100 with her diss track aimed at Nicki Minaj.

“A song with no hook, where you’re just firing at n-ggas and with that long speech in it, to go number one, that’s big,” he said. “You gotta give it to her.”

Some of his podcast team claimed that the song’s chart success was “manufactured” but they still gave Megan her props.

“I think it was machine play behind it to make that happen,” said Lamar “Ice” Burney, before adding: “But I don’t want to diminish it; it’s still an accomplishment.”

He then referenced previous claims made by Nicki, saying: “We can see through certain shit. It’s the same fight that Nicki been talking about.”

“Hiss” hitting No. 1 meant that Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj are the only two female rappers to debut multiple songs atop the Hot 100.

In comparison, Minaj’s retaliatory track “Big Foot” only charted at No. 23.

Megan appeared to taunt the Young Money hitmaker while celebrating her victory by drinking Hennessy through a straw, a nod to a lyric on Nicki’s aforementioned diss song.

She also denied suggestions that she’s backed by a major music industry “machine,” revealing she self-funded “Hiss,” as well as her previous single “Cobra” and upcoming album.

Though Joe Budden praised Megan, he had largely taken Nicki Minaj’s side in the beef.

Budden interviewed the Queen rapper on X Spaces last month, where she slammed Megan and made numerous accusations about her management company Roc Nation.

“Between the YouTube bots and the Twitter ads and the paid-for TikToks and the paid-for tweets to the point where people got they little $250 for the tweet to say something bad about Nicki Minaj and the next day was like, ‘Bitch yeah, I’m listening to ‘Big Foot.’ Why would [Roc Nation] want to prove everything I’ve been saying true?” she said.

“This is a dialogue between me, the machine and a bunch of different machines having to come together constantly using different people. When one fails, let’s go somewhere else and try. It never works but that’s the point that I wanted the world to see and that it’s going to be sympathy again and it’s going to be nonsense again.”

Budden had also cast doubt on reports that the cemetery where Megan’s mother was laid to rest had to increase security after allegedly being doxxed by Minaj’s fans.

“This is another reason that I’m not mad at the ‘lying on your dead mama’ line,” Budden said. “I believe that there’s a Meg publicist somewhere pushing these stories about upping the security at the grave and people are coming here to sabotage it.

“I think that’s a real nasty PR trick. I think that is real nasty. I can see through the publicist stories like glass. That was an ill counter.”
