Jeezy has reflected back on the time he wound up in hospital after a bad experience with weed, saying the ordeal caused him to give up smoking for almost a decade.
Sitting down for a chat with the Dope As Usual podcast, the Atlanta rapper spoke about the time during his hustling days when he believed a woman intentionally sprinkled “crumbs” of crack cocaine into a batch of weed he later smoked in his car while listening to 2Pac.

“What we would do when we cut up the rocks is we would put them in a bag and we’d call it shake, and it’d be like the crumbs,” Jeezy explained. “She was like, ‘Yo, cuz. Let me get the crumbs.’ I’m like, ‘Alright, cool, whatever.’
“So I gave her the crumbs. We hanging out that night and I’m like, ‘Man, I want some weed.’ And she says, ‘Shit, your cuz got some!’ So I called her, I was like, ‘Yo let me get some weed.’

He continued: “I get the weed from her. We riding around, we listening to 2Pac, we smoking. [My friend] doesn’t smoke, but we smoking, and I’m listening and the music sounds like it’s chasing me [laughs]. I’m the most paranoid I’ve been. I think I’m gonna die.
“He take me to the hospital. I’m sitting there and when they got me back around I said, ‘Yo, do you think she put those crumbs in the weed to make it more potent?’ I still didn’t get the truth out of her, but I stopped smoking for like 10 years after that.
“I was more afraid ’cause a lot of my friends, we started off hustling and a few of ’em started smoking crack, and by this time I’m knee deep in it.”
Jeezy isn’t the only rap legend who’s been forced to give up the ganja. Method Man said on Maino’sKitchen Talk podcast last year that he quit smoking weed while ironically filming his 2001 stoner comedy How High with Redman.
“At first, yeah,” Meth said when asked by Maino if he smoked real weed throughout filming. “Hell yeah! And they was like, ‘You guys are so spot on in the morning, but after lunch, you come back. Something’s different.’”

He continued: “The producer Stacey Sher, I remember she pulled me to the side and she was like, ‘You know after this I’m gonna still be a producer? My face isn’t on the screen, but I’ll get my credit. That’s your face on the screen. How do you wanna be seen?’ You right, you right.”
Jeezy has come a long way since his drug dealing days, and in January celebrated his daughter’s first birthday alongside his wife Jeannie Mai.
During a 2021 episode of The Real, Jeannie said her reluctance to have children was a major reason she divorced her previous husband Freddy Harteis in 2018, but that her relationship with the CTE boss ultimately changed her mind.
“Falling in love with Jeezy, meeting somebody who also didn’t feel safe in their life, we began to really create a place where our happiness spelled out what safe looked like around us,” she said.

“So, as soon as you feel safe, in a healthy relationship, all of a sudden you start having visions and dreams, and for both of us at the same time, it would be becoming parents, having kids.”
