Jamie Foxx has reportedly begun his road to recovery following an undisclosed “medical complication” — a claim supported by actor Martin Lawrence.

A source close to the Oscar winner told PEOPLE on Friday (April 21) that his health is continuing to improve, but didn’t say when he’d be discharged or the nature of medical complication.

“He’s OK, thank God,” the source told the outlet. “He’s still in the hospital and doctors are running tests but he’s awake and alert. They’re keeping him under observation.”

Martin Lawrence, who was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week, also told EXTRA on Thursday (April 20) that Foxx was on the mend.

“Well, I hear he’s doing better,” he told the outlet at his star’s unveiling ceremony. “My prayers go out for him every night and just wishing the best for him, one of the best that we got in Hollywood. Not only one of the best entertainers, but a good person.”

Foxx’s daughter, Corinne Foxx, initially issued a statement on Wednesday (April 12) saying her father had suffered a medical complication and was in a hospital in Atlanta.

“We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” she wrote on Instagram. “Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

Jamie Foxx’s health scare arrived as he was filming the movie Back in Action in Atlanta with co-stars Cameron Diaz, Glenn Close and Kyle Chandler. Directed by Seth Gordon, the action-comedy is set to premiere on Netflix in early 2024.

Foxx announced he was starring in the film last summer, tweeting out an audio clip of a phone conversation with Diaz and Tom Brady, during which the NFL legend attempted to convince the There’s Something About Mary star to “unretire.”

“Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION – our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production starting later this year!!” he wrote.

Foxx’s hospitalization isn’t the only hiccup that has occurred on set. Last month it was reported that the multi-hyphenate was targeted by a $40,000 scam while shooting Back in Action, temporarily halting its production.

Foxx fired several production staff — including an executive producer, two directors, and his own driver — in connection with the alleged scheme. An insider claimed the film has been nothing short of a “nightmare” and “there have been a lot of delays” with “an investigation into everything going on.”
