Jack Harlow has been sometimes talked about as a potential successor for Drake in mainstream Hip Hop, and the numbers are beginning to match that take.
On Monday (January 8), Billboard reported that the 25-year-old’s “Lovin On Me” has shot back up to the No. 1 spot on their Hot 100 tally. This marks its second run atop the chart after previously peaking once before in early December.

With that, the Kentucky native has become the only other rapper other than Drake to bag a top spot on the list for four consecutive years. He previous landed the top spot for his feature on Lil Nas X’s “Industry Baby” in 2021, “First Class” in 2022, and “Lovin On Me” in 2023.
Drake, on the other hand, has had numerous No. 1 hits, securing multiple in a year in several instances.

In this particular context, his run consisted of “Tootsie Slide” in 2020, “What’s Next” and “Way 2 Sexy” featuring Future and Young Thug in 2021, his cameo on Future’s “Wait for U” and “Jimmy Cooks” featuring 21 Savage in 2022, and “Slime You Out” featuring SZA and “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Cole in 2023.
Drizzy and Harlow joined forces two years back on “Churchill Downs” off the latter’s Come Home the Kids Miss You album. According to Lil Yachty, the 6 God wrote his entire verse for the joint in just over 10 minutes.
“I actually talked to Drake about that verse,” Yachty told Akademiks on a 2022 episode of the Off the Record podcast.
“He said he did that shit in like 11 minutes. He said he did that in front of Jack. That verse, he told me that … They did it when they were out there in the islands. He did it right in front of him.”

Akademiks then pointed out the viral video of Harlow looking over Drake’s shoulder in the Turks and Caicos Islands could have been the moment he was writing his verse.
