The Kentucky rapper narrowly beat out Beyoncé’s surprise country single “Texas Hold ‘Em,” while Kanye and Ty Dolla $ign‘s “Carnival” debuted at No. 3.
Though Bey didn’t land the top spot on the Hot 100, she went straight to the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, becoming the first-ever Black artist to do so.
Beyoncé’s chart achievement came after a spot of controversy, with some country stations refusing to play “Texas Hold ‘Em.”
A radio station in Oklahoma initially refused to play the song when requested by listeners but reversed their decision after online backlash.

In a statement, the station said: “I think we issued just a generic reply when we should have been more detailed. If someone emailed our country station and requested a Rolling Stones song we would have probably replied the same. Beyoncé is known for NOT being a country artist, so we just replied to that effect.
“But….we are actually excited that she has ‘crossed over’ to a new genre…We are big Beyoncé fans here and really hope it does well, as we like seeing new artists get into the format.”
Despite also missing out on the top spot, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign still made their presence felt on the Billboard Hot 100 as all 16 songs from Vultures 1 landed on the chart.
In addition to “Carnival,” “Fuk Sumn” (No. 23), “Back to Me” (No. 26), “Talking” (No. 30), “Burn” (No. 33), “Vultures” (No. 34) and “Stars” (No. 39) also cracked the top 50.
