J. Cole has hinted he might be looking to retire from the music industry in a new track with BTS star J-Hope titled “On the Street.”

On the K-pop artist’s new track, which dropped on Thursday (March 2), Cole spits a set of lyrics that give off the energy of a man looking to move on to greener pastures.

“Some days, I wonder if I need to pick a different hobby/ I’m deep in with this rappin’, it’s all a n-gga know/ I never didn’t nothin’ better, it’s hard to let it go/ But like a father watching his daughter/ Walk down the altar with tears in his eyes/ You gotta let her grow,” he raps.

J. Cole then raps about how he continues to get better but still feels the nagging sensation of calling it quits in music.

“And so I shall, but first, I been honing my style/ Coldest around, with more quotables than what the quota allows/ You see a Top 10 list, I see a Golden Corral, n-gga/ As the moon jumps over the cow/ I contemplate if I should wait to hand over the crown/ And stick around for a bit longer, I got a strange type of hunger/ The more I eat, the more it gets stronger.”

J-Hope met the North Carolina superstar last year backstage at Lolapalooza and called him his “muse.” He also said Cole’s track “Higher” from his 2014 mixtape, Friday Night Lights was his “favorite track ever.”

Drake, who is arguably J. Cole’s closest musical compadre, also talked about making a “graceful exit” from the rap game during a recent interview with Lil Yachty.

“I think I’m at the point now where I just wanna like — I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day. I feel like I’m kinda introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” he said.

Both Drake and J. Cole are set to perform together at J. Cole’s fifth-annual Dreamville festival. The popular festival will take place in Raleigh, North Carolina at Dorothea Dix Park on April 1 and 2.
