J. Cole has opened up about sometimes being jealous of those who lead a “normal” life without fame and a strong desire to squeeze the most out of their existence.
The Dreamville boss sat down with Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers earlier this week for an all-encompassing interview for the latest installment of his Lead By Example Podcast.

“I’m envious of people who don’t have strong desire or strong vision and don’t have something,” he began. “They have a peaceful life and an enjoyable life and it’s like, ‘I go to work, I like my job, I like my salary, I’m not stupid rich but I love my family. I come home — life is amazing.’ And they live their life like that and I think that is just as valid.
“We live in a society and a culture that pushes, like a hustle culture to work hard, like boom, boom, boom. I think people could feel guilty and insufficient for not having some great dream to dream. I’m like, ‘No, it’s a blessing to be satisfied, to be at peace, to be content with life.'”
The 45-minute sit-down hears J. Cole touch on a multitude of topics including smoking cigarettes at six years old, hoop dreams and his pillars of success among other things.
While he isn’t ready to hang up his mic for good just yet, the North Carolina native has hinted at retirement being on his mind.
Earlier this month, Cole joined BTS star J-Hope for an assist on his “On The Street” track where the 38-year-old opened the door to walking away from rhyming in the near future.
“Some days, I wonder if I need to pick a different hobby/ I’m deep in with this rappin’, it’s all a n-gga know/ I never didn’t nothin’ better, it’s hard to let it go/ But like a father watching his daughter/ Walk down the altar with tears in his eyes/ You gotta let her grow,” he raps.

“I contemplate if I should wait to hand over the crown/ And stick around for a bit longer, I got a strange type of hunger/ The more I eat, the more it gets stronger.”
