Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor’s marriage was once celebrated by fans, but it has now become the subject of drama unfolding before the public.
After getting married in 2016, the pair announced an amicable split in September. However, on Thursday (November 22), TMZ reported that the singer filed for divorce eight months earlier, citing that the former NBA star was “emotionally and mentally abusive” towards her throughout their marriage.

While he did has not directly addressed the recent revelations, Shumpert has shared a Joe Budden meme on Instagram which many of his followers took as a response to the newly emerged details.

“It’s so funny bc I completely understand what this pic means coming from shump,” one person commented, and Budden himself seemingly agreed, writing: “I feel you [three crying emojis].”
“Respectfully Fck her. That’s foul how she countered her statement and then tried to throw jealousy in there. No one would have none [sic] Tey if it wasn’t for her marriage to Iman,” wrote another supporter under the a post. “You knew not to play with him being tomboyish don’t make you no dam man. She ain’t want that brother to lead and she follow so now he narcissistic SHUT UP.”

All of the comments were more critical of Shumpert, with one follower writing, “Ain’t nothing funny about fumbling ya family.”
According to court documents, in her divorce filing in January, Taylor accused Shumpert of “treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.”
She alleged that the former New York Knicks player was “extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards her,” adding that he could be prone to exhibiting “cruel behavior and selfishness.” The filing also claims he cheated on her multiple times during their relationship, contrary to her previous claim that “infidelity ain’t one of the reasons for our departure.”
Furthermore, the divorce petition details incidents of Shumpert crashing Taylor’s Rolls-Royce and subsequently fleeing to avoid arrest, displaying jealous behavior whenever she was in the spotlight, and asking her not to work.

The documents also revealed that the former G.O.O.D. Music singer initially filed for divorce in 2022, but later withdrew the petition. She is now seeking primary physical custody of their two children as well as joint legal custody and child support.
Teyana Taylor announced the couple’s split on Instagram in September, writing: “We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children. Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT.”
