The Associated Press reports Chris Brown and his legal team recently entered a guilty plea to an assault charge. Brown was initially accused of felony assault and making criminal threats after allegedly beating and biting his pop star girlfriend, Rihanna, during a pre-Grammy party on February 8 [click to read].
After reportedly losing a lucrative Wrigley‘s sponsorship [click to read] and having several radio stations informally ban his music, Brown will receive five years of supervised probation and spend 180 days performing community labor in his home state of Virginia.
The plea deal also calls for Brown to stay 50 yards away from Rihanna for the next five years. If the two are present at the same event, the “stay away” order reduces the distance to 10 yards. Despite much speculation about whether she would testify or not [click to read], Rihanna never entered the court room. In a released statement, her lawyer, Donald Etra, said she was prepared to testify if called upon.
