The rest of the league may be enjoying some rest for the summer, as the Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic square off in the NBA Finals, but Los Angeles Clippers point guard Baron Davis is still hard at work. Davis is busy promoting the documentary Crips And Bloods: Made In America, which he co-produced.
“The film is picking up in every neighborhood, and with the mixtape out I think people are really starting to pay more attention to the film,”Davis told HipHopDX during a recent interview. Crips And Bloods has been an official selection at the Sundance, Torino, LA and Oslo film Festivals. The critical acclaim it has drawn has allowed Davis the opportunity to meet with like minded individuals on Capitol Hill.
One such individual, Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA), introduced the Youth PROMISE Act, which hopes to be the first piece of nationwide legislature aimed at gang violence prevention.
“With the Youth PROMISE Act—if you care anything about the inner city—we can help push this a long way,”Davis added. “For so long I think our inner cities have been neglected and we’ve never started to reinforce education. We’re not spending enough money on education and urban redevelopment, and I think now is the time.”

In addition to screening the documentary for Congress in Washington, D.C., Davis is also preparing a second edition of the DJ Skee and Don Cannon hosted mixtape which accompanied the documentary [click to listen].
“We’re putting out a video for ‘America’ by Problem, and after that we’ve got another mixtape coming out,”Davis explained. “It’s kind of a bonus for all the artists who wanted to be involved. There were some people still working in the studio and we had some late records come out. So that will feature Mistah FAB, Kurupt and Crooked I.”
With Crips And Bloods, a host of community outreach activities and his websites BaronDavis.com and IBeatYou.com drawing traffic, “Boom Dizzle” has plenty to keep him busy. But when the NBA regular season is back in effect, he promises to do everything in his power to help the Clippers improve. And despite sharing the Staples Center with his Pacific Division rivals, the Lakers, Davis remains loyal to his home town in his NBA Finals predictions.
“Lakers in six games,” he offered, with no hesitation.
